The Sote Initiative implements a double-impact, trees planting campaign aimed at addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation in the Tanzania; by supporting women groups to engage themselves in agro-forestry activities (mainly avocado and banana production), from which they have improved income, while engaging themselves in environmental protection.
We also promote planting of other tree species, particularly the indigenous ones, in order to restore the lost conditions. The tree planting campaign is implemented in such a way that each woman participating in the program plants her tree, which she maintains throughout the learning cycle. The tree maintenance exercise itself, is part of the learning journey.
In line with that, with maximum involvement of local people, the areas with lost water springs will be identified and restoration efforts will be carried out. This is done parallel with maintaining the existing ones, in order to make sure that their existence is guaranteed.
